Another Review of Taamu

I have not read one bad review, I’m telling you this CD is worth a listen. If you like good music, creative, risky, fresh music, this is the CD to try. Check out YK’s review of this CD.

What is particularly interesting about this review is that it comes on the heels of a scathing review of Shwekey’s Ad Bli Dai.

To really appreciate the review of Benny Friedman you have to read what he writes about the other CD. They are sort of like companion pieces.

Benny’s review is here, the review of Shwekey is here.

For the record, I did not totally agree with his review of Ad Bli Dai. I do agree that many of the songs were nothing out of the ordinary or fresh, but overall I did enjoy it. The concept of something not being so fresh and therefore memorable, is something I do agree with him about.

based on your review (and a coupla others), i did go out and purchased the taamu cd.
overall pretty impressed. i think the hameracheim song is beautifully composed and performed, however i wish it would be a bit longer. it’s not even 2 full rounds.
otherwise, his voice is ok – def A LOT of studio help with it. i’ve heard him live, not quite the same… with time he will improve i’m sure.
one other note, i was very unimpressed with the vocal arrangements. firstly, there were almost no harmonies – certainly not creative ones. also, the choir to me sounded very empty and poorly mixed at times.
however, the cd is indeed full of freshness and there’s certainly a lot of energy. overall, a very good buy in any case!
chaim – i’m curious to what your thoughts are (and mooka – you too).
