Images from the fight in Satmar over Yom Tov.

Why am I linking to it? Because we should all see how shameful this looks. This is not a problem for just one group of Jews, it’s a Boosha (embarrassment) for every single Jew.

Story HERE

Here’s an except:

They say:

Israeli Arab players accused the national soccer federation of religious insensitivity for refusing to reschedule a game during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

During Ramadan, observant Muslims refrain from drinking and eating from sunrise to sunset. When the federation slotted a game Saturday for the mixed Arab-Jewish team of Bnei Sakhnin just four minutes after the end of the fast, seven of the Muslim players ate early to be ready.

The League Say’s:

The federation’s manager, Pini Kainan, said the match had to held at the designated time due to commercial considerations, including TV broadcast times.

“It’s impossible to stop the league games for a month,” Kainan told Maariv.

Israeli rabbis have been unsuccessful in trying to ban soccer games on Saturdays, the Jewish Sabbath.

Arabs make up almost 20 percent of the population of Israel, a nation of 7 million. They complain that the authorities discriminate against them in funding for their municipalities and schools.

I say:

Funny, I don’t remember baseball ever postponing the world series on Yom Kippur.

So far I like what I’m reading. This should have been his first choice. It seems this was his top choice, but for whatever reason went with Miers to give the court a flavor of diversity, having someone from a uniquely different non Judge type background on there. Bad idea. This is way better. Like I said earlier, part of me still thought just for balance it should have been a woman. I don’t think that would have happened because the qualified conservative choices were all judges that would have been to tough a fight to overcome. It still seems that Alito will not be welcomed with open arms on the left, but that’s just tough luck on them. When you lose elections this is what happens. you don’t have the power.

Get caught up on “Planned Parenthood V Casey “this will be something you will hear a lot now. Judge Alito was the only dissenter in a case where the court struck down a law requiring spousal notification for an abortion.

Another Case that most Lubavitchers are familiar with is: ACLU v. Schundler in which Judge Alito was in the majority opinion holding that the Establishment Clause was not violated by a city hall holiday display that contained a creche, a menorah, secular symbols of the season, and a banner proclaiming the city’s dedication to diversity.

Like I said, the more I read about him, the more I like him.

There is a huge ammount of information on the Scotus blog, including notable opinions in cases.

The left is already trying to set this up as some huge showdown, but I don’t think it will end that way. This is the way it is, the left will have to suck it up, the right has the power now, and this is what your going to get. I didnt like Clinton’s choices either.

UPDATE: I love Drudge’s Caption!

Bush Announces Supreme Court Nominee
Ya, this much we know. It seems that the Nominee will be Samuel A. Alito, Jr. Here is Wiki’s page and you can do your google search right here.

I’m surprised Bush didn’t go with a woman. He’s nicknamed “Scalito” let’s see how that goes over. The left is not going to like this guy at all. Well, they had their chance with Ms Miers. Of course this will be a developing story, so I plan on reading up and getting to know more as soon as I can.

Well, ya, at this point he could have had this thing in the bag without even spending a nickel. Wait, was there anyone even running against him? (There was?)

I love it. Tell me again that the media isn’t left wing? Please, I love that story! Read it to me again!

A couple day’s ago, when we R”L hit 2,000 dead American soldiers in Iraq, you could almost smell the excitement on the fresh cover of the NY Times. Large letters, bold dark and grim, in the wondrous “bottle half empty” way the NY Times reports everything that goes on around us. Showing barely, if any, gratitude for their sacrifice, just articles on why the war is wrong and bad.

Worse, in this article they write about Cpl. Jeffrey B. Starr, who after he died in a fire fight in Iraq his father found a letter in his laptop talking about the possibility of his own death. Read this outtake from the original full post over by Ms. Malkin.

He wrote: “Obviously if you are reading this then I have died in Iraq. I kind of predicted this, that is why I’m writing this in November. A third time just seemed like I’m pushing my chances. (this is where the times ends it’s quote, now let’s continue in context) I don’t regret going, everybody dies but few get to do it for something as important as freedom. It may seem confusing why we are in Iraq, it’s not to me. I’m here helping these people, so that they can live the way we live. Not have to worry about tyrants or vicious dictators. To do what they want with their lives. To me that is why I died. Others have died for my freedom, now this is my mark.”

I’m not saying that the NY Times left that out on purpose because it didn’t help their cause of distorting everything in order that people should see the war in a worse light – well, actually, no, I am saying that. I’m saying exactly that.

- By the way, over at the NY POST, the also had that large 2,000 number on the cover - but next to it was the word HEROES. Once again showing that the NY Times is not just about being pretentious, elitist, and uber Manhattan snob like but they also classless.

They all had the hottest music video producer in the entire music world. According to this article by MTVNews.com, Marc Webb the most sought video producer in the business right now is doing Matisyahu’s music video for his new single “Youth” off his upcoming major label release in a couple months. You can see more about the actual shooting of the video here. Sony is not holding anything back. I fully expect to see Matisyahu everywhere. On a much larger scale than we have seen thus far. Get ready for full on Matis-Mania. I’m excited. I can’t wait to hear the new album and see the video.

Hurricane Humor

I’ve been in contact with a couple friends in the Hollywood, FL region. It’s a mess out there. They had quite an interesting Yom Tov san power. Most of the Shuls in the South Florida area did have generators. (in an unrelated story shul attendance was not only up dramatically but people were early)

There is a curfew in effect there, which is strictly enforced and they are being told not to expect power for a couple more WEEKS. I only wish they had power so they could at least appreciate their own Dave Barry’s hysterical Hurricane articles. Particularly this one.

What Media Bias?

I love it when people on the left tell me the Media isn’t biased. It always make messes like this seem even more ludicrous. I sincerely hope the person who did this was fired.

First off, yes I’m back, Thank G-d. I’d never be able to stop blogging for good.

Next, onto business. I can now safely say that the Penny has become a joke. The way I see it, there has been this slow transition from the penny being somewhat useful, to being at certain times convenient to use to seldom used, but saved in a jar to now something that people don’t even want to keep around.

How do I know this? Listen to this story. On erev Yom Tov (Monday) I went to the bank in Boro Park. At the bank there was one of the usual Boro Park Yiddishe Panhandlers. I always try to make an effort to give something, but I didn’t want to give passing her by, because I only had change, and wanted to give her a dollar bill. My logic, was that after I did my banking business I get some singles and drop one in her little can.

As I passed her by, she shouted out what’s common yiddishe’r panhandler gibberish. I tried to just walk past her and not engage in a conversation. But not being from NY originally, I was not born with that instinctive “ignore the strangers everywhere” talent that NY’ers seem to have. Somehow that can always avoid eye contact with people. I think strangers and panhandlers sense that I’m not from here, smell the blood in the water and try very hard to engage me.

So I passed her by and she took notice, she starts shouting out as I walk by “I’m not invisible ya know” Uchh … Mortified. Do me a favor lady. So I go into the bank, do my business and get some singles. Even though by now, I was already turned off from giving her anything. Understanding that this type of behavior is not really her fault and just a byproduct of her life I gave her anyway. After I drop in a single bill, she asks me to come over for a second. Uch again. Why, Why, they smell it on me, I’m telling you. Since I’m too nice for my own good I come over.

She points to the floor where there are 2 dimes, a nickel and 4 pennies. I think you see where this is going right? She says, I’m an old lady, I can’t bend over, and can you please pick up the dimes and nickels. Oish. It was at this point in the story that my wife stops me and say’s. “Tell me you didn’t pick that up for her. She can get it herself, people are giving her money, and you give her money every time you pass her by, you shouldn’t be her shleper”

Don’t think my wife is cold, or mean spirited. She isn’t, she just knows that I’m way too nice, and I’m way too kind for my own good. So much so that it gets me to the point where I’m picking up Dimes and Nickels for panhandlers in Boro Park.

So yes, I did, I picked it up. When I look down, as I said before, I saw some pennies too. She must have seen that I was eyeing the pennies and she say’s (I’m not making this up, I swear to you) She say’s. “No, no, not the pennies. I don’t need those”

And with that. I officially declare the penny dead. Even dirt poor, half insane, probably semi-homeless panhandlers don’t want them. Can you believe that?
